in 1989, JumpStart chronicles the life of the Cobbs, a Black family living in Philadelphia. The Cobb family consists of Joe, a city cop; his wife Marcy, a nurse; their daughter Sunny, a girl wonder; their son JoJo, who aspires to be the president; and the twins, Tommi and Teddy, who have been communicating with each other since the womb.

Unlike most strips, a large cast swirls around the Cobb family: the grandparents and other extended family, work peers, management,
friends, foes and Philly cheese steak sandwiches.

JumpStart explores the ordinary moments of the middle-class Cobb family - their trials, tribulations, successes and failures, which reveal the heart, joy and wisdom of their lives
every day.
